Belgian police have shot dead the suspected Brussels shooter who killed two Swedish fans.

According to Belgian media, 45-year-old Abdeslam Lassoued was sitting in a cafe in Schaerbeek when the police came there - he began to resist and opened fire, and was killed in a shootout. Tunisian-born Lassoued could not be found for 12 hours, although local residents saw him moving around the city on a scooter with a weapon. Belgian authorities called his actions a terrorist attack, but the police denied a connection between the shooting and the events in Israel.
