In Russia, for the first time arrested for the Facebook logo

In Yekaterinburg, human rights activist Alexey Sokolov was accused of demonstrating symbols of extremist organizations and arrested for five days for the logo of the Facebook social network. This decision was made by the Leninsky District Court of the city, Sokolov's lawyer Roman Kachanov told the Evening News. According to him, the reason for drawing up the protocol under Part 1 of Article 20.3 of the Administrative Code (public demonstration of symbols of extremist organizations) was the placement of a button in the "basement" of the website "Human Rights Defenders of the Urals" leading to the organization's Facebook page. According to the Evening News, Sokolov is engaged in protecting the rights of prisoners and previously headed the association "Assistance in Legal Protection of the population "Legal Basis", which closed in 2019 due to fines imposed on her during the period when she was declared a "foreign agent" by the Ministry of Justice. Instagram Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp parent company Meta Corporation was recognized as an extremist organization by the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow in March 2022.
